CA Healthy Youth Act

Dear CUSD Families,

Please see the attached links below to learn more about the CA Healthy Youth Act.

The Sexual Health Curriculum: Teen Talk materials are proposed for adoption are teacher instructional materials.

A new law went into effect on January 1, 2016, which required a shift in the requirements for Health education in California which previously required only HIV education to a comprehensive sexuality education which is currently the most comprehensive in the U.S. The below links outline the required components of the curriculum.

Families will have the option to OPT out of the curriculum. Parent information meetings will be held prior to Spring Break at the District Office and at school sites to allow parents to review the curriculum. Information about parents’ ability to opt their students out of the instruction will be provided via hard copy flyer distribution, school messenger email, and at the parent information meetings. Instruction for seventh and eighth-grade students would occur during May in their science classes.  Students who are opted out (of all or part of the program) by their parents/guardians will be given alternative schoolwork and will not be discriminated against in any manner.
