PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT AT LADERA RANCH MIDDLE SCHOOL – “SIGNS OF SUICIDE”

TONIGHT!

In the month of October we will be presenting the Signs of Suicide (SOS) curriculum to our students. This curriculum is exclusively presented to our 7th grade students, but we feel it valuable to have this information accessible to all our parents. Prior to the in-class presentation, Las Flores Middle School is partnering with Ladera Ranch Middle School to host a “Parent Information Night” that will provide you insight to the SOS Curriculum. We encourage you to join us, Tuesday, October 1st, @ 6:00 PM at LRMS (29551 Sienna Pkwy, Ladera Ranch, CA 92694) in their Multi-Purpose Room, and share any questions or concerns related to this topic.

The teen years are marked by a roller-coaster of emotions.  It can be easy to misread depression as normal adolescent turmoil; however, depression and anxiety appear to be occurring more often and at a much earlier age.  Depression, the most common of mental illnesses, can lead to suicidal thoughts and actions. In fact, suicide is the second leading cause of death among those 14-24 years of age.  The good news is that depression can be treated and cured, and suicide can be prevented.

Omero Corral, our school counselor, will be presenting the SOS curriculum and the BSAD brief screening for Adolescent Depression in 7th Grade Social Science classes on Tuesday, October 15th & Friday, October 18th.

An opt-out letter will be sent home the week prior to the presentations should you desire that your child not participate in the SOS presentations.

MESA CENTER

PARENT SURVEY

Dear CUSD Parents and Guardians,

CUSD’s Multi-tiered System of Supports, also known as MTSS, defines a system which includes supports in the areas of social-emotional, behavior, and academics to ensure that every learner can be successful.

During the 2018-2019 school year, CUSD provided parents with monthly newsletters and workshops throughout the year. As we prepare to support students and their families with workshops and resources during the 2019-2020 school year, we are asking for your feedback. What topics pertaining to social emotional and behavioral support are most important to you? What information and resources interest you? When are the most convenient times for parent workshops and trainings?

Please click HERE to access the brief, anonymous online survey and provide your input by September 27, 2019.

Thank you so much for your time and support.
